Psalm 32

This week’s Song To Live By is Psalm 32

Andy writes:

Our record collections must have at least one record that’s a real rendition of repentance.  We must have songs that say sorry, songs that state our need of forgiveness, that sing of our turning away from sin.  In this age, on this earth, we’re simply not being real or righteous if we never sing our songs of repentance.

Psalm 32 is one such song, well to get really specific, it’s a post repentance song, and it is so helpful for us as we regularly come back to the Lord for his mercy.  This song remembers our remorse, but then it leads us into redemption.  It gives us some key lyrics that carefully convey some of the foundational truths of our walk.

The truth that life does not go well when we sin, “my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.”

The Truth that we sin, we need to confess to our God.  “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.”

The truth that when we do confess our sins to God, he has made a way, and will forgive our sin, “you forgave the guilt of my sin”

The truth that being forgiven by God is fantastic, “Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.”

The truth that God not only wants to forgive us, but also to forge us.  To not only take away our sins, but also teach us his ways.  “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

The truth that these foundations of our faith; this daily diet of deliverance should be not just spoken, but sang, “Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!”

Psalm 32 is a song we can live by.

A Prayer

Lord, I’ve strayed away from you.  I confess before you now, the things I need forgiveness for.  Thank you for your forgiveness, thank you for Jesus and his death on the cross for me.  Thank you that I am forgiven and free.  Thank you that you are teaching me your ways.  I will sing and make music to you, my merciful rescuer.
