Tots and Pebbles - October Theme and Activities for home!
This month in Through The Roof – we will hear the story of the man who was lowered through the roof so that Jesus could heal him. It’s a beautiful story of how friends help, how Jesus cares, and how love and faith make big things happen.
We want to help your child see that when we follow Jesus, we become people who help others, share what we have, show kindness, and trust His power to change lives.
You are so important in making this real for them. Through the simple stories, play, songs, and prayers at home, your child will not only hear the story — they’ll begin to live it with their family.
Key Scripture of the Month
Romans 12:13 — “Share with God’s people who are in need.”
Weekly Plan (Weeks 1-4)
Each week has a story, a home-friendly activity, an “I wonder…” question, and a prayer.
Week 1 – The Story of the Man’s Friends (Luke / Mark / etc.)
Big Idea: Friends help bring people to Jesus. We play a role in God’s kingdom.
At Home Activity – Build a Roof
Use pillows, blankets, chairs, or boxes to build a “roof” or fort.
Pretend someone inside the fort is “sick” and friends outside want to help. Talk together about how they might get through the roof or how to help.
When the story is read, point out how big love and faith are when friends do something hard to help.
I Wonder…: “What is one thing I could do to help a friend who needs me?”
Prayer: “Jesus, thank You for friends who help. Help me be a friend who cares and shares.”
Week 2 – Jesus Sees and Heals
Big Idea: Jesus cares about what people need and He can help.
At Home Activity – Helping Hands Tray
Trace each child’s hand onto paper.
Cut them out and decorate them.
Place them on a tray or board. Talk about how Jesus uses hands and hearts to heal and help. Encourage using those hands during the week to help someone.
I Wonder…: “How would you feel if someone helped you when you were in trouble?”
Prayer: “Jesus, thank You that You see us when we need help. Make me someone who helps others the way You do.”
Week 3 – Faith & Courage
Big Idea: The friends believed enough to do something brave — they trusted Jesus could heal.
At Home Activity – Leap of Faith Game
Set up a short, safe obstacle course or path (e.g., stepping stones of cushions, or marking with tape).
Encourage your child to step or jump from cushion to cushion, trusting you’ll help them when needed.
Talk about how the friends trusted Jesus — and sometimes being brave means doing something hard because you believe.
I Wonder…: “What is something brave I could do because I trust Jesus?”
Prayer: “Jesus, thank You for being strong for me when I'm afraid. Help me trust You and be brave.”
Week 4 – Sharing with Others Who Are in Need (Romans 12:13)
Big Idea: Jesus wants us to share with those who need help — just like the friends in the story.
At Home Activity – Give a Gift Share
Find something small in your home (toy, snack, drawing) that your child can share with someone who might need encouragement.
Wrap or decorate it together. Then deliver it (or share it via video or call) and talk about how sharing makes a difference.
I Wonder…: “Who is someone I know who might need prayer for healing?”
Prayer: “Dear Jesus, thank You that healed the man in the story. Help me to pray for those who are sick and need you.”
Summary & Encouragement
Over these four weeks, your child is learning important truths:
That helping others is part of following Jesus
That faith and love go together — sometimes being brave to help shows faith
That God heals people today - we can pray for God’s healing!
Keep doing what you’re already doing: talking about what Jesus is like, praying together, and showing kindness in real ways. These small seeds of faith grow over time, and your example as parent or carer means more than you know.
Encourage your child’s questions, celebrate when they share, and enjoy seeing God at work in their hearts — and in yours, too.
