Rocks & Geodes - July Theme and activities to do at home
Theme: Worship – Rocks & Geodes (June Curriculum)
Key Message: We worship because God is worthy!
Key Scripture: “Come near to God and he will come near to you.” — James 4:8
Key Question: Why do we worship God?
Key Answer: Because He is so good!
Week 1: Why Do We Worship?
Home Focus: Worship is showing God He is the most important.
Activity: Worship Rock Toss
Collect 3-5 small rocks (or soft toys if indoors).
Write or say different reasons to thank God on each rock (e.g., “You made me,” “You love me,” “You help me be brave”).
Take turns gently tossing the rocks into a basket. With each toss, say the reason out loud: “God, I worship You because…”
Chat Time:
🗨️ Ask: “What’s something about God that makes you want to sing or dance?”
🙏 Pray: “God, You are the best. Thank You for being so good!”
Week 2: How Do I Connect With God?
Home Focus: Everyone can connect with God in their own special way.
Activity: Worship Your Way Collage
Grab old magazines or paper and scissors.
Find and cut out pictures of things your child loves (e.g., drawing, dancing, nature).
Stick them to paper and write: “I can worship God through…”
Talk about how they can use those things to say “I love You” to God!
Chat Time:
🗨️ Ask: “When do you feel close to God?”
🙏 Pray: “God, help me notice You when I play, draw, or run!”
Week 3: What Does Worship Look Like in the Bible?
Big Idea: Worship is powerful. It brings freedom, expresses love, and helps us grow closer to God.
Bible Focus:
Paul & Silas in Prison (Acts 16)
Woman with the Alabaster Jar (Luke 7)
The Psalms – honest worship in every situation
Home Challenge: Write Your Own Psalm
Read Psalm 63 together. Talk about how it shows praise, trust, and honesty.
Encourage your child to write their own short Psalm with three parts:
🙌 “God, I praise You because…”
😔 “Sometimes I feel…”
🙏 “Please help me…”
Reflect & Pray:
🗨️ “Why do you think God likes it when we’re honest with Him?”
🙏 “God, I worship You with everything I have — the good days and the tough ones too.”
Week 4: What’s the Point of Worship at Church?
Big Idea: Worship helps us express love to God with our whole body and whole heart.
Bible Focus: Psalm 63:4, Psalm 143:6, Philippians 2:10–11
Home Challenge: Try Worship Postures Together
Watch a worship video or play a favourite song. Try out these postures as a family:
🙌 Hands Up = “God, You’re amazing.”
👐 Hands Out = “Fill me, Holy Spirit.”
👑 Kneeling = “You’re my King.”
💃 Jumping = “You fill me with joy!”
Talk about what each one helps you express.
Reflect & Pray:
🗨️ “What’s one way you want to try worshipping differently next time at church?”
🙏 “Jesus, help me worship You with everything I’ve got — my heart, my voice, and my body.”
Final Thought for Parents
Kids this age are building their own faith identity. Your enthusiasm and openness will shape how they think about worship. Whether they’re reflective or expressive, God’s meeting them right where they are — just like He meets you.
