The Call For Lent - Keep Contending
Back in January, along with Vineyard Churches UK & Ireland, we prayed and fasted as a church for 7 days. This fed into our conviction that Jesus’ call on us, at this time, is to “Contend for Spiritual Awakening” - to see people move from complacency and into expectancy; to move out of silent resentment and into overflowing gratitude; to step away from indifference and into ministries of mercy. To really live out the "Matthew 25" reality that Jesus calls his people into.
Sometimes, after a week of prayer like this, there’s a sense of ‘job done’, and, at other times, there’s a sense of ‘let’s keep pushing’. As we’ve been teaching on these themes, and experiencing both ‘awakening’ and ‘contention’ across the lives of many in the church, we sense a call to keep contending. We would love you, as leaders, to continue in this with us.
The season of Lent is used by many Christians all across the body of Christ as a time to express devotion and develop expectancy. We've called Croydon Vineyard to step into this season, Wednesday February 22nd to Easter Sunday April 9th, to intentionally seek the Lord that He would continue to awaken us.
Individually, as leaders in the church, could we encourage you to ‘join the front line’ on this with an act of fasting and prayer for at least some portion of this season? Whether it’s fasting from food, or screens, or in some other manner, to provoke a hunger which you then turn to prayer.
Corporately, we’d love you to sign up for a day of contending at some point(s) through lent and encourage others to do so through the links on our events page.
If your schedule permits you are also so welcome to join in person at our Wednesday 7-8am prayer meetings downstairs at the Harvest Centre (or via Zoom) which will begin on Wednesday 22nd February and run through Lent.
Scripture and history is littered with examples of God loving to respond to the prayers of his people with times of refreshing and awakening, why not here? Why not now?
Leaders, we encourage you to lead on this with us!
