Psalm 20
This week’s Song To Live By is Psalm 20
Andy writes:
There is great power in blessing.
We do well to get ourselves in front of priestly proclamations that point God's provision toward our person on as regular a basis as we possibly can.
Things really shift when kingly authority declares and decrees protection over us and provision for us. The kingly cry of commitment calls things into our lives that simply would not be there if his wishes went unexpressed.
So whether it’s the quiet coffee shop prayer with a friend, the preacher’s pointed proclamation, or the pastor's post service blessing - get yourself under the voice of those speaking God’s victorious verdict over you as often as you can.
And not only can you seek to place yourselves under these bountiful blessings - you must also venture to voice these very incoming victories over others. As those under the authority of our King we should give sound to his deep desire and his covenant commitment to bountifully bless his people. We can and should speak life and victory over others as often as the occasion calls for it.
In terms of songs to live by, psalm 20 is a banger of blessing. So blast it out over your life, and belt it out over the lives of your loved ones. The audible assertions of our awesome God's covenant commitments mysteriously and miraculously advocate for us, they act like avenues - directing the power of God, the victory of God, into our lives, and the lives of those we love.
And why does it work?
Is it because of the eloquence of these interjections?
Is it from the strength or the sanctity of the speaker?
Does it lie in the power or the purity of the pray-er?
No, it all rests on the covenant commitments of our King. It’s his eagerness to assert his victories in the lives of his people that means he’ll give through every avenue he can. Even the puny prayers and bumbling blessings that his people dare to decree.
We look to the one that we trust. The true King who has all authority, who holds all victory and who brings all blessing. Sure, we prepare and we pray; we strategise and we sweat, but ultimately, we trust in the name of of our God, and we stand in his blessing and victory.
A prayer:
God, thank you for the victories you bring in my life. I am protected. I am supported. I am remembered. You reign in my life, and so I trust in you. And I speak blessing of my family, my church, my town, my nation. May God bless you, may he answer you when you call, may you know his great victory in your life. In the name of King Jesus, Amen
