Living for something bigger than you...

Half the UK population watched the funeral of Queen Elizabeth. Her popularity fluctuated throughout her life and some across the globe would question some aspects of her legacy, but what the funeral bore testimony to was the dignity and appeal of "living for something bigger than you". This seems to be "the thing" right now. David Beckham won huge acclaim because he queued for 13 hours to pay his respects to the Queen lying in state. He seemed to capture and epitomise this humble spirit of honour. Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were pilloried for seeming to jump that same queue; a sure sign of a celebrity living for themselves, rather than serving the bigger story... Whatever is actually true and actually false about David and Philip and Holly, we are - for a month at least - surrounded with the idea that humble service of the common good is genuinely a Good Thing.

If that Good Thing captures you, then remember the joy of our gospel.  The Gospel opens our eyes to the biggest of all stories - the ultimately victory of Jesus over all that is evil - and invites you to play a meaningful part in that great story.

Our task as followers of Jesus is to keep reminding ourselves (and one another) that Jesus is the Great Saviour who will one day bring all things together under his leadership (Eph 1:10), and to help one another live "unto" that day by doing the stuff Jesus has given us to do right now (Eph 2.10).

We hope and pray that all we do as a church does indeed help you do just that. If any of the events that are coming up over the next few weeks at CV could help you with this, we would be utterly delighted. Please do have a look at them below.

We love you and are praying for you,

Much affection

Tom and Lesley
